How to set up winning strategies for dairy in developing markets? Participants from more than 80 countries attended IFCN’s fourth annual public Dairy Forum on 29 November 2023 to learn more about the visions for winning strategies in developing dairy markets.

In terms of global milk production, 2022 brought an extraordinarily low milk supply growth of 0.8%. Major driver for this was a declining supply in exporter regions like EU-27 and New Zealand but also a comparatively moderate growth of the Indian dairy sector.

IFCN World Dairy Map 2023 is aimed equally at dairy analysts – juniors and seniors, students and professors, milk experts and amateurs.

The last year was characterised by extremes, on the one hand side record high milk prices almost all around the world, and on the other side, high production costs especially triggered by the extraordinary prices for energy, fertiliser, and feed.

The income of 1 billion people around the world is directly or indirectly linked to the dairy sector. Therefore, any global event that negatively impacts the dairy industry will affect the livelihood of many households around the world.

World milk price increased by +18% in 2022 to a record high level of an average annual price of 53.3 USD / 100kg of milk.

Many emerging economies see increasing demand for dairy products among their population, while many exporting countries experience stalling milk production, so how will milk be produced in the future, and by whom?

With an increase of 2.9% compared to the previous year, milk production in 2021 remained at the level of recent years. However, a shift could be observed, i.e. typical net importing countries in particular contributed to the overall growth rather than the major milk exporters.

The hybrid event took place with more than 300 participants (live and online) from 4-6 September in Netanya, Israel.

This year’s IFCN Dairy Conference focused on the next generation of dairy farmers and dairy farming systems. IFCN’s first hybrid event recorded over 500 registrations and brought people from the dairy sector together in Kiel, Germany.
