Out now: IFCN Dairy Report 2024: Improved global milk production growth and recovery in demand in 2023
In terms of global milk production, 2023 reached an average growth of +2.2% YoY, which was better than in 2022, but was still below the average for the period 2017-2021.
World Dairy Map 2024: Finding sustainable solutions to the global milk shortage
In 2023, the world milk supply growth (excluding India & Pakistan) was 1.3% higher than in 2022. However, it was still 4 mill t below the 5-year average.

IFCN Combined World Milk Price Indicator in July: 40.3 EUR/100kg; 43.6 USD/100kg
The increase is driven by the sthe drop in milk powder prices. Fatty products are still having premium over powders and the prices for butter and cheese still fluctuate around similar level from previous month.
Japan: A country with dairy potential
The second day of the conference was dedicated to the Asian and especially the Japanese dairy sector. Hokkaido is the main dairy region producing more than 50% of the total Japanese milk. At national level, production was restricted during 2022 and 2023 due to supply-demand imbalance.

The lowest milk production growth of the last two decades monitored in 2022
In terms of global milk production, 2022 brought an extraordinarily low milk supply growth of 0.8%. Major driver for this was a declining supply in exporter regions like EU-27 and New Zealand but also a comparatively moderate growth of the Indian dairy sector.
